New page

{{TplBlessedLandsEgyptChapter|title=Epilogue|chapter text=
Epilogue II

Inside was the new High Priest. The Vizier of the Middle Regions of the Blessed Lands, Friend of the Royal Family, Right Hand and Instrument of Pharaoh, Honute Carael-Ra. Outside stood a million curious citizens, waiting. The air was thick with drizzle and anticipation. It hung silent like all those present. In a few minutes, the long awaited question would be answered. Who was Honute Carael-Ra, the unknown humble priest with Magickal powers? Was he a servant of Pharaoh, or a new deity destined for wondrous things?

Akila fussed over Honute. She made sure that his robe looked impeccable.
“Akila,” Honute protested over the attention. “I feel silly wearing this thing. I don’t see why I can’t sit on the seat in my regular clothing.”
Akila brushed at the material. It was a spun gold polymer with silver metal trimming. It was deceivingly heavy, hot, and restrictive. She brushed at the shoulders and they seemed to radiate a brighter yellow-orange color than the rest of the robe. She rubbed her hand down the length of the entire robe and it radiated brightly. Akila stepped back and smiled. “That is better.”
Honute stood still pouting, waiting for her to finish.
Akila stepped close to Honute, placed a hand on his cheek, and gave him a tender kiss on the lips. “You look just wonderful.”
Honute couldn’t help himself, he smiled. Akila seemed to make his heart sing just with a few words and the right touch. Thoth he loved her so. He whispered a quick prayer to Isis and thanked her.
Akila asked, “What was that for?”
His smiled widened. “It was a prayer to Isis. I thanked her for bringing you into my life.”
Akila blushed and smiled. She wiped the corners of his mouth off, making sure lipstick didn’t show. The new High Priest could not be seen with someone else’s lipstick on. Akila fought Honute on putting his face together. Finally he settled on a light blush for his cheeks and a clear gloss for his lips. She stepped back. “The people are waiting for you.”
Ayruyi stood in the corner and smiled. Honute-Ra was going to take his place in history. And she was going to be a part of it.
He nodded and stepped out the chamber. Only weeks ago he would have never believed he would be worthy enough to walk the halls of the Temple of Ra, in the main capitol. The week before Pharaoh himself welcomed Honute, Akila, his sister Honuti, Ayruyi, her father and Theoris to his dinner table. He was still jazzed from that.
The stone passageway stretched out in front of him. It might have been a hundred miles for all that Honute felt. Like the other countless High Priest before him he had to walk the passageway alone - in silence. With only the thoughts in his head, true or false, only he, Pharaoh, the Gods and the Oracle would know. May Thoth have mercy on his soul.

:“I have not done falsehood against men, I have not impoverished my associates, I have done no wrong in the Place of Truth, I have not learned that which is not, I have done no evil, I have not made daily labor in excess of what was to be done for me, my name has not reached the offices of those who control slaves, I have not deprived the orphan of his property, I have not done what the gods detest, I have not slandered a servant to his master, I have not caused pain, I have not made hungry, I have not made to weep, I have not killed, I have not turned anyone over to a killer, I have not caused anyone’s suffering, I have not diminished the food-offerings in the temples, I have not debased the offering cakes of the gods. I am Honute, a simple priest who humbly walks the passage way of the High Priest. I give unto you Thoth my essence and my life. I give unto you that which makes me the penitent entity I am. I am your servant, to command. I am your servant from the beginning to the very end. From eternity to that of judgment Thoth, oh great God of gods, your house will rise above all. I declare it so.”
And, thus the crowd saw Honute-Ra, Vizier of the Middle Regions of the Blessed Lands, Friend of the Royal Family, Right Hand and Instrument of Pharaoh, and would-be new god.
