Kajana stared at the list. The second item was to start her farming. She glanced toward the back lot area. It was as barren as the day they moved in. The problem was she hadn't really thought planting crops through. The winter months were near and she'd have to wait until the weather got warmer. She had an option to plant cold-weather plants like plums and gooseberries. She decided to ask Miluna for advice. Maybe direct her to a seed merchant.<br>

Episode Ten

Episode 10

Yahen woke up in a strange bed. Fright gripped his heart as he didn't remember leaving Goddess Dawher's chamber. He remembered eating the best Bison meat he'd ever tasted and felt the buzz from the Yuzu ale, but that was all. He lay on his back and heard soft snoring to his right. The thought of who it could have been terrified him.
Dawher stirred. She placed an arm over his chest. He was nude. "Did you sleep well, my Love?"
The pounding in his heart was thunderous.
Dawher smiled. "Your heart, my Love. I can feel it. Is it the love you have for me?"
Yahen relaxed. He remembered. They made love last night, though it should be the Goddess Dawher who made love to him. He was unable to move. "Yes, Goddess," he said softly.
"Good, because I have something I want to give you."
Panic crept in. "Yes, Goddess?"
"You are strong now, but I can make you stronger. More powerful than Kajana -- that is if you want that."
Stronger than Kajana. Anger welled up to the surface of his mind. Hatred for the woman that stripped him of his dignity and his party mates. They betrayed him, but that could be forgiven -- in time. But his hatred for Kajana outweighed everything. He wanted to beat her. Not just in abilities. "That is what I want." And, in saying that he knew he damned his soul to a Goddess.
"That is good to hear, my Love." She ran her fingers across his chest. "I have a quest for you."
Yahen tensed up. He knew he should be honored that Goddess Dawher took an interest in him. He longed to be loved by one of the Goddesses, but he would have rather it be on his terms, in his bed, with him on top.
She ran her fingers along his arm and kissed him on his neck. "The quest will require someone special. Someone with special skills. Someone I can trust and who would be honored to have my trust."
"Yes, Goddess."
She whispered in his ear. "Is that someone you, Yahen, my lovely warrior of great power?"
He forced himself to smile. He thought he should feel honored.
"Do this for me and I will grant you Command nytes."
There it was. The one thing that would give him the power. Command nytes. He would be favored.
She moved on top of him and lightly kissed his lips. "My lovely warrior." She kissed him harder.
He endured. He convinced himself this was what he wanted. The love of a Goddess who would grant him further power. He was favored by a Goddess. Not his Goddess, but the next best thing. The second Goddess. Not his Goddess, but a Goddess nonetheless. He was favored. But, not by his Goddess. He was not favored he finally decided, but this was his means of revenge. He would feel favored later, but now he had to endure the attention of a Goddess that was not his Goddess.

Kajana sat at the Dining room table. Java tea was steaming from a mug in front of her. She had pieces of paper on one side. She had written a list of things to do today. One was to visit the Adventurer's Guild and see if they had any miscellaneous jobs for solo or parties. Basco had been up early chopping wood. He mentioned he could stay idle for so long.
She thought of their conversation.
"Kajana, my dear. I thought I'd like to lounge around longer, but it seems I'm getting restless."
She handed him a thick log.
He placed it on top of a stump and brought the axe down. The wood split cleanly in two.
"I was thinking the same thing. It's been a week and I think I put on weight."
Bacos split one half of the log in two and tossed the two pieces into a pile of wood he started a half hour ago. He smiled as he looked Kajana up and down. He laughed. "Never!"
Kajana punched him in the arm.
"You do that when a man has an axe in his hand?" His laugh was heartier.

Maybe direct her to a seed merchant.
Hallona entered the Dining area with a mug of Java tea. She sat across from Kajana. "Goddess, plans?" Kajana nodded. "I think it is time to start adventuring again. Our vacation has been nice, but --" Hallona took a sip from her mug. The bitter liquid warmed her throat. She preferred drinking Java tea unsweetened. "Good," she said with a small sigh. "We're not used to staying idle longer than a few days. The longest had been several weeks, but that was to allow Bita to heal from a poison Basco or myself couldn't cure. It was horrible."
"The poison?"
Hallona laughed, "No, the waiting. Even Bita had a hard time resting. One can play so many hands of cards."
Kajana glanced down at the list again.
Hallona cleared her throat.
Kajana looked up.
"I was thinking. What happens if we're away for more than a few days? Maybe weeks?"
That was a good question Kajana thought. "I hadn't thought of that. We should discuss it."
Plono and Bita entered the Dining area.
Bita said, "A meeting?"
Plono went into the kitchen. He came back with two mugs of juice. He gave one to Bita and placed his mug in front of a chair. He went back into the kitchen and came out with a Stein of ale. He placed that in front of an empty chair.
Kajana nodded approvingly. They've been working together long enough that Plono instinctively knows their drinking preferences.
Basco walked in from the back lot. "I smell ale." He saw the Stein. "Plono, no doubt." He sat down and turned to Plono. "Thank you my friend. I was getting thirsty."
Kajana spoke up. "Miluna is at the guild, but we can start."
Basco took a swig. "An adventure?"
"Well, along those lines. Hallona brought up what happens if we are away for days or weeks. Basco, you are the oldest and I'm sure you've partied with groups with bases."
He took another swig. "It's been decades, but I have. Usually, we'd lock up and go. We could hire live-in help. But I'm thinking Miluna would not accompany us on the longer quests."

Plono said, "If we hire live-in help that could allow us to take any quest."
Bita sipped her juice. She watched and listened.

"I don't know. I think live-in help would be nice, but --"
"Yes," Kajana encouraged.
"How would we pick someone?"
Basco said, "We could ask the Guild for assistance. Miluna could arrange the paperwork."

Emperor Nutiho sat on his throne. He had dark brown skin, blonde hair, and brown eyes. He was dressed in white leather pants and a white demon spider silk tunic, with black dragon skin ankle boots. The crown on his head was gold with a middle ring of silver. Quarter-sized red sapphire round stones dotted around the middle section of the crown. The throne was made of dense Trent and its opulence of gold and silver trim, studded with diamond and red and yellow sapphire disturbed his need for minimalism, but as the ruler of the southeast part of the Region, he needed to show his divine authority. He was the Emperor of Radus, a land rich in minerals and fruits like Cherries, Quince, Pears, and, Elderberries. Radus exported mostly wines and jams, and imported grains and eggs. It was a land that worshipped Radus, the God-King that created all life. Today, he was to meet with an Emissary from a land that worshipped the Mother Goddess. His people were proud and saw no need to include another deity. Radus was enough for the land of one million.
Empress Ohitin, the First Sister-Wife, walked into the assembly area. She was slim with pale skin and light brown hair. Her eyes were almond-shaped and light gold. Her Brother-Husband sat on his throne looking uncomfortable as usual. She sat on a throne on his right. It was smaller, but just as bejeweled as his. "Brother, what bothers you so?"
Nutiho turned. "The Emissary from the Northern Region is set to visit sometime today. They want to talk trade."
"And, you will consider it?"
"We shall see. Their brand of Goddess fanatism spoils what could possibly be traded. Their Elven Ale is enticing --"
"Oh, that yummy beverage --"
He nodded, "Precisely. But we shall see."
