Basco beamed, “Bakomo?!”
| |||
“Bascodo?”
| |||
Basco laughed, “What are the chances? Sister! But he called you Muna.”
| |||
“1000 gold pieces and we talk if we survive.”
| |||
Plono said, “A quest that may not be collected.”
| |||
Miluna laughed softly, “I’m here, too.” Then she turned to Kajana. “Well?”
| |||
Kajana smiled, “Quest accepted of course. Basco?”
| |||
Basco replied, “Yes?”
| |||
“I know you have Gravity - -”
| |||
Basco laughed, “You saw that much - -”
| |||
Kajana nodded, “Yes, but not the level.”
| |||
“Level 10.”
| |||
Yahen dropped his sword.
| |||
Kajana and Miluna laughed.
| |||
Yahen recovered from the shock and picked up his sword. “You kept that from me . . . from us?”
| |||
Basco smiled, “I’ve used it in the past and besides my friend, you have aversions to certain types of magick.”
| |||
Basco was right, Yahen admitted to himself. Gravity was a Sorcerer's spell. “Are you a Sorcerer?”
| |||
Basco’s expression was stern. “Yahen, is it important? We have pressing matters approaching.”
| |||
Yahen said, “If we survive we can talk later.”
| |||
Basco’s laugh was hearty. Then he turned to Kajana. “You have a plan?”
| |||
She turned to Hallona. “You know Gravity, too.”
| |||
Yahen surprised unconsciously sidestepped away from her. “Et tu?” His expression was of disgust.
| |||
Hallona looked down and took a deep breath, “Level 3”.
| |||
Basco laughed out loud. “The pillow talk will be awkward tonight.”
| |||
Hallona reached out to Yahen.
| |||
His face was deep red, he turned his back to her. “We’ll talk later.”
| |||
Kajana said, “Mos, Tutu, and Kira will do buffer shields. Hallona, when I say the word cast Gravity. We’ll need to gauge its strength. Basco, you’ll add Gravity if Hallona’s is not enough. Plono and Milu will attack with me. You two strike low while I strike above. If that doesn’t work –”
| |||
Miluna finished, “We run. Tutu, you can teleport?”
| |||
He nodded, and finger-signed, “I can.”
| |||
A roar blasted through the chamber. Loose dirt and rocks slid to the ground. Then they heard the footsteps. The vibrations along the floor came seconds afterward.
| |||
Kajana said, “Miluna, cast a second light 500 meters from us, please.”
| |||
Miluna said, “Done. And that is why I love you. You say please and thank you.”
| |||
Basco and Bita said at the same time, ”Please and thank you,” looked at one another, and laughed.
| |||
Kira, voice raised, said, “Here it comes.”
| |||
| |||
The orb light brightened. Then flicked out. The thunderous roar was followed by thunderous stomps. In the dim light, an outline of a dragon could be seen.
| |||
| |||
Koouto stomped her way down the tunnel. The Black Dragon had been troublesome, but the fight was worth it. She killed it and feed off its body. The flesh was ripe, juicy, and tasty. Then she sensed the small ones. Usually, bugs to her, but this group was different. Two had Goddess auras, and that intrigued her. One most assuredly could be a Horned God, with another just below. The others bugs. She decided to keep pace. They didn’t seem to be afraid, some of them, and they were not running away. There was no need to hurry.
| |||
| |||
Basco whistled. “A Moon Dragon.”
| |||
The creature was light gray with spots of slate grey coloring. It seemed a bit larger than a Black Dragon but had a longer snout, its jaw housed larger teeth and its arms looked larger. Beefy or hefty looking were good descriptive words to use.
| |||
Yahen dropped his sword and quickly picked it up again. He accepted this was over his head. “What do you want Bita and me to do?”
| |||
Kajana said, “Stay alive.” Then, “Milu and I both know Time-sense. Plono has wind-slash –”
| |||
Yahen gasped. Another Sorcerer skill. His entire party were Sorcerers and that hurt. “Understood.” His tone was of defeat and betrayal. He said softer, “Understood.”
| |||
Kajana walked over to Bita and whispered in her ear. “I’m going to give you magick. It may not help now, so I need you to survive so I may teach you later,” and with that, Kajana kissed Bita intensely on the lips.
| |||
Bita tensed up but relaxed after a few seconds. The kiss was every bit more wondrous than she imagined. She felt a tingling sensation flow from her lips to her entire body. After a moment their lips parted.
| |||
Kajana said, “When you shot your arrows, think the phrase, ‘Volare vi’ - it means ‘fly with force’.”
| |||
Bita nodded, “I will.”
| |||
| |||
Kira raised her voice. “It is here.”
| |||
The roar was intense.
| |||
| |||
Koouto’s fire blast filled the entire chamber, turning parts of the wall into molten rock. She wasn’t completely surprised to see a shield protecting the bugs. She stepped forward and blenched another blast. It had no effect. The bugs still lived. She took another couple of steps, close enough to strike when one of them lunged toward her head. Koouto side-stepped and slapped at it. She swung up and missed, then swung sideways and connected. The bug slammed into the cave wall producing a deep dent. It landed on its feet and lunged again. She felt a sharp pain in her ankles. Bugs again. She kicked out, connecting to one of them. There was a satisfying thunk feel as it smashed into the wall. Disappointingly, it got up and appeared back on her ankle. Then everything changed. Koouto felt crashing weight and collapsed. Gravity magick. She cast a counter and stood up. Enraged she filled the chamber again with fire. Then she felt a stronger force of gravity. It was coming from one of the smaller bugs. She had to kill it. She forced one leg forward, then another, then another. This one had to die. From her side vision, a bug shot an arrow at her. A futile effect she thought. What single arrow could harm her? Then - - she realized it had the Goddess’ Blessed force. It was too late.
| |||
| |||
Koouto’s head exploded into a spray of brain, blood, and bone. Her body stood motionless for a second, then crumpled into a heap of dead weight.
| |||
Yahen dropped his sword and fall to his knees. He uttered, “Wait, what?”
| |||
Basco erupted into a burst of hearty laughter and vigorously patted Bita on the back. “Well done! The Goddess now favors you.”
| |||
Yahen, now on all four, realized, he may be the weakest link. He wondered if his party had secretly used their magick to defeat their enemies. He now doubted if he had been the deciding factor in all their victories. The monster that suddenly moved slower. Was it Gravity or had he gotten faster during the battle? Was his level 8 slash attack against a level 10 monster effective because it was weakened by repeated strikes or because his party secretly buffed him? Did they do passive damage that he couldn’t detect like Bane?
| |||
| |||
Later that night –
| |||
| |||
Yahen purchased a keg of ale and a separate room. Tonight he would drink and sleep alone. He had much to think about. Clearly, he had been deceived at best and cuddled at worst. His paradigm was in question and his thoughts turbulent. Today he realized, he was not the Chosen One, but one of many who was favored by the Goddess. The pill was bitter to swallow. All his life Goddess Adruqu lingered along the edges of his life. She appeared in his dreams and his thoughts during the day. He lived for her. He fought for her. He defended her. He couldn’t help but feel betrayed by her. As the ale kicked in, he thought what to do? His party was her party now. Instead of driving the carriage, he was sitting in the back ready to tumble out. Being left behind was his worst regret. He was . . . the weak link now. He drank a stein worth once more and fell asleep. Tonight was full of sorrow and pity, tomorrow, maybe not so much.
| |||
