Sean woke up in Medical. He was dehydrated – the inside of his mouth felt dry and it hurt to swallow.
“Sean?”
He looked and saw Kathy sitting next to his bed. She reached out and touched him on the cheek.
“We were worried about you.” She said.
He swallowed. “How long was I out?”
“About two days. How are you feeling?”
“Like crap. I’m thirsty and my head hurts.”
Collins walked over. “Morning Captain. Here, drink this.” She handed him a small bottle. The substance inside it was green.
Sean took it and nearly drained it in one swallow.
Collins then gave him a hypo-spray in the arm. “That should take care of the headache.”
“What happened after I blacked out?”
Loggar said, “Well, it was quite amazing. After Robin killed me I found myself looking at the entire fight. You were magnificent. I was sitting in a room with Necronians! It was amazing. Some of them were watching the fight on a huge vid screen. Adruqu sat next to me. She asked me if I wanted to go back. I told her ‘of course!’ Then Robin appeared next to me. She sat watching you kill her. Then Robin and I woke up in the containers and you were on the floor collapsed. Ms. Quock and Dr. Collins were over you. From what I was told. The platoon of security landed and took over. Robin contacted the Webster and halted the fighting.”
Sean lay there absorbing everything. The headache finally went away.
Loggar continued, “Maria exposed the entire conspiracy. Some of my rivals wanted the nanobots for immediate application. They had promised Robin a seat on the Board if she could get the nanobots. Then later I would be involved in some accident. My allies on the Board identified the conspirators and justice was swift.”
Sean tried to sit up. He was too weak so he just continued to lay there. “Do I still have the nanobots?”
Loggar nodded. “Adruqu told me you earned the right to keep them. Sean, my love, it looks to me like you are the only human in all of GRID who can do Magick anytime you please.”
Sean wanted to test it out but he was too exhausted. He thought, ‘Magick any damned time I please? I’ll be damned!’ He laughed.
