Sean stared out the conference room window and watched the planet slowly rotate. So many regrets he thought. He stared down at his hand and commanded the nanobots to generate a red flame in the center. They did. He thought blue and the color changed quickly. It would have been that simple. Just on a thought. His thoughts were broken by a chime at the door. “Enter.”
Milkens and Herb walked in with Dawn and Adriana following.
Sean turned. “Gentlemen, please have a seat.”
They settled in, but looked nervous.
“You read the unofficial report?”
Both nodded.
“You understand your options?”
Herb said, “We do, Captain. Milk and I discussed our options . . .”
Sean raised an eyebrow.
“ . . . we’d like to stay with the Johnson as part of the Science Team.”
Sean nodded. Good he thought. “Glad to have you on board. Your decision places you under Military rule. Subject to rewards and punishments. You’re okay with that?”
“We are.”
Sean looked at Milkens.
He said, “Yes, sir. We are.”
Sean said, “Very well. Officially, our mission is to still discover alien life-forms and form alliances. GRID Command has been slowly releasing info to the general public about the Necronians. It’s now nearly impossible to keep this a secret, but we can put our own spin on it.”
Both nodded.
Sean continued, “In the coming weeks GRID Command will be sending a diplomatic ship to this planet. The Elder assumed The Senior Elder position and has agreed to meet with a Diplomatic delegation. That’s good. Unofficially, we’re still tasked with specifically looking for Necronian seeded worlds. Everything else is extra. That’s not so good.”
Herb bit the bottom of his lip.
Sean noticed, “Herb, something on your mind?”
Herb cleared his throat, “Why not so good?”
Sean said, “Magick. Are we ready? Some things are just a very bad idea. Down below mission gone wrong is a case in point.”
Herb nodded. It had been a worst case scenario nightmare. He was going to miss Dr. Loggar terribly. Not necessarily the one of weeks past, but of the eager super-genius not so obsessed with magick and power. “I understand, sir.”
Sean nodded. “Adriana, your new staff.”
Adriana smiled. “Gentlemen, follow me please. Science Team is on K-Deck. Your new home.”
The three walked out.
Dawn turned to Sean, “What did you not tell them?”
“I’m still part of The Most High and until a new Goddess has been decided upon, I’m the leading voice.”
“My Goddess, sir! You are GRID Command.”
“As long as I have full backing by them . . .”
Dawn laughed, “And who is going to challenge you?”
Sean’s smile was slight but Dawn saw it.
“And you’ve already sent in your recommendation as to the new Most High Goddess?”
The smile increased.
Dawn laughed, “Does she know?”
He shook his head slowly with an exaggerated movement.
“Are you going to tell her?”
“I’ll leave that to The Most High Council. By the time we reach Earth she should know.”
Dawn smiled. “Sir, the pool had started minutes after word about Loggar was made.”
“Cold-hearted,” Sean nodded, “I had to recuse myself from it.”
The two remained silent for a moment, staring at a lazily rotating planet. Sean sighed, “Ready, Dawn. Earth is not going to wait forever.”
“With what has happened in the last few months, I think she will.”
Sean tapped out the comm command to Top Deck. “Mr. Foster. Take us out of orbit and head back to Earth, please. No rush.”
“Course laid in and set, sir. How does fourteen days travel sound?”
“Very good. Give the two bell ring warning.”
“Yes, sir.”
Sean gave the planet one last look. The Elder allowed him to bury Kathy’s remains on the Planet. He couldn’t think of a better place. A planet full of life and hope and magick. All three things she wanted.
Two bells sounded.
