The GRID Traveler Universe
The book GRID Traveler takes place about 400 years in the future. Earth has gone through many changes over the centuries. This page will address GRID history and the many individuals and characters involved in its creation.
GRID stands for Governing Rings Independence Division
The story E Pluribus Unum sets the stage. In the late 21st century and early 22nd century, a large swarm of meteorites pelted the Earth, making it almost uninhabitable. A century before the catastrophe, the United Nations set into motion an ambitious plan never seen before in human history. The construction of giant space stations, in the shape of rings, would house hundreds of thousands of humans. The plan was to build these massive stations in space. Earth had 100 years to complete this task.
Once the stations were completed, each Ring would be recognized as a separate sovereign nation. Each station would send one representative to a newly formed agency called the Governing Rings Independence Division. Thus GRID was borne. During the years in space, GRID would become GRID Command and humans would see unprecedented technological growth. Eventually, humans would send out Sentient Intelligent probes looking to expand humans into outer space. At some point, the probes, later known as the SI, returned changed, unrecognizable, and aggressive toward humans. Thus the SI war began. At the time of GRID Traveler Trinity, the war had ended with the SI retreating into the unknown regions of the galaxy.
Then, there is Adruqu. The Overlord Goddess of Region 11. Her people, the Necronians, created an enormous disk in the deep regions of her domain. There, she created numerous worlds. In one such world, she reincarnated "kidnapped" individuals from multiple timelines. Her goal is to allow them to flourish and grow. Their destiny is in their hands. She is only the Overlord Goddess, watching over her children, occasionally interacting, but ultimately, allowing her children to live out their lives. Living, dying, reborn, repeat.
