Chapter 19
Ferruk rose early. He slept badly and cursed his reasoning for giving Ayruyi to Honute for a week. As far as he was concerned, he should have his dick cut off. “Arrutyi,” He yelled, “Breakfast you lazy man. Bring me . . . .”
Arrutyi had stepped in with a tray of fruits and vegetables. A tall glass of pomegranate balanced nicely on the tray. “Yes, Master. Where shall I place it?”
Ferruk shot him a burning gaze. The man anticipated him. Today would be a day of hell for the old man Ferruk thought. “Thank you, Arrutyi.” He said slowly. “Place the tray on the table. No. The other one. Toward the end. Thank you, you may leave. No, wait. Move the tray to the other side. The other side I said. Get me a woman. Draw my bath water. I’d do you but I don’t want to dirty myself. I told you to move the tray to the other side. That’s better. Tea, you forgot the tea. What good are you? What am I to do for a week without decent help? No, no, no! The tray is on the wrong side. Move it now or I shall beat you myself. There, leave it. You can’t get anything right, can you? Get out until I need you again. The Tray! Move the tray. I thought I said get out!”
Arrutyi bowed and made a hasty retreat. He knew that Master Ferruk was upset with him. Arrutyi dreaded the coming days. He could see it already. The Master was in a foul mood and only the touch of a woman would pacify him.
Theoris sat staring at the computer screen reading Honute’s records. She had been at it for over three hours. The records read like a good book. She got sucked in and hadn’t strayed away. She scrolled down to the next page and froze. The title page read, “Re-conditioning Project.” She scrolled to the end page and scanned the reference and citation section. Eighth line from the bottom she found her name. She swallowed hard and scrolled back to the beginning of that section. She read. With each line her heart sank deeper and deeper. It was true. Honute had been re-conditioned for “re-integrating back into Blessed society.” The program and techniques used to allow Honute to function well in a normal society were pioneered by Theoris. She got up from the desk. A part of her was delighted that it worked. Honute was a shining example of the techniques. Another part was disgusted. She only created the techniques as a thesis for her Master’s. She knew the Royal Family had commissioned a study of the possibility of one day using it. The study led to some trial work in helping some of the criminally insane and sociopath get to a point were they could function reasonably well in group interactions. Pharaoh himself sent her a letter of thanks. As he wrote in the letter more of his people could reach the afterlife by natural causes instead of violent and untimely death by the insane. She was touched by it. But after the study ended over fifteen years ago she hadn’t heard anything come of it. It was like it just dropped off the map. It didn’t and Honute was proof of that. She sighed and stopped reading the report. It was depressing at its best now. Theoris opened up her email and went through the myriad of messages. The head of the physicist department answered her email from last week. The Magnetic Resonance Recorders were ready for research. She replied and told Dr. Hytuwian that she, Akila and Honute would be there later in the afternoon, after lunch. She sent off an email to Hypatia and told her that they would be with Dr. Hytuwian and his staff after lunch. As a last minute thought, she called up Dr. Rivota. She wanted to know if she was still open for lunch. Rivota said yes. Theoris added to the email to Hypatia that she had a lunch-meeting with Dr. Rivota and that hopefully she would see her at the physicist lab later in the afternoon. She sent it and secretly wished that Hypatia would not show up. But since Hypatia was head of the overall Astronomy and Physicist department, it was the University’s sick joke of the Grand Unification Theory, she had an obligation to invite her and keep her informed. Theoris sat back and sighed again. She looked at her timepiece. It wasn’t even nine o’clock yet.
Honute woke up early. He saw Akila snoozing prettily on the bed. He smiled and kissed her on the forehead. Slowly and carefully he untangled himself from the covers and got out of bed. He surveyed the room but didn’t see Ayruyi. He slipped on a light robe and walked out of the room. He closed the door, felt someone behind him, turned and faced Ayruyi.
Ayruyi had woken up very early that morning. She always had. It was an old habit. Ferruk often had to be up by four in the morning to start the beginning day prayer. It was his custom to greet the morning sun with words to the gods. She was glad that Master Honute was up early. “Breakfast is ready, Master.”
Honute looked at Ayruyi. “Breakfast? You always fix breakfast this early?
Ayruyi nodded. “Master Priest Ferruk demands it.”
Interesting Honute thought. A priest must feed the gods first. “What did you fix?”
Ayruyi smiled for the first time since he met her. “Thin fig cakes, Master. You keep a well stocked store board. I cooked eggs and sliced up some honey dew and cantaloupe.”
Honute said, “Ayruyi, about you calling me Master. I would prefer you not. I am not your Master, High Priest Ferruk is.”
Ayruyi frowned, “But Master Honute. For the rest of the week you are. Please don’t ask me not to serve you. That is my only function in life. . .” She stepped closer to Honute, nearly touching him. “. . . to please and satisfy your every desire and whim. I am yours to command.” She lowered her voice to a whisper and placed her hands on his shoulders. “I am here for you, Master Honute. Command me to do anything.” She rubbed her hips against his side slowly and cooed.
Honute stepped back and nearly tripped on some furniture. He put his arm up to get some distance between him and Ayruyi. He swallowed hard and said, “Breakfast would be fine, then. You can bring it to the table. Set a place for three.”
Ayruyi was at first hurt that Honute shied away from her, but she figured she had some time to let him get comfortable around her. Master Ferruk placed high confidence in her “abilities”; she was not going to fail him. She perked up when Honute asked her to set the table. He was at least going to allow her to serve him. “Three, Master?”
Honute nodded. “Yes. Akila, you and myself.”
Ayruyi looked startled, “I, master? I can not!”
Honute recomposed himself. “You will. No backtalk.” He turned and walked back into the bedroom. He closed the door, locked it, and started breathing again.
Akila stirred and looked up at Honute. She said lazily, “Good morning.”
Honute walked over to and sat on the bed. He looked visibly shaken.
Akila sat up and placed her hand on his shoulder. “Honute, are you okay?”
He said, “I don’t know. I’m ashamed and upset all at once.”
“Why?”
“High Priest Ferruk’s servant.” He couldn’t bring himself to say the word ‘slave.’ “I think he’s violated Ayruyi’s rights.”
Akila blinked.
“Ayruyi has, well, approached me as something more than a domestic servant.”
Akila smiled and bit Honute on the ear. “I don’t blame her.”
Honute nearly jumped. “Akila! I am serious.”
Akila placed her hand between his legs. “So am I.”
Despite his shock he got a hard-on.
“And I think you aren’t all that shocked?”
Honute blushed and push her hand away. “Really, this bothers me.”
Akila looked at Honute for a moment. “You mean she coming onto you didn’t turn you on? The way you came in here I thought it made you horny?”
Honute took in a breath of air. He lowered his heart rate and steadied his breathing. Years of training and practice made it easy. He did get excited and it did make him horny. He remained silent.
Akila smiled and kissed him on the cheek. She hugged him. “My Honute.” She said. “It does bother you.”
He nodded but remained determined to keep quiet. He was too embarrassed.
“That is what men do with female slaves and vice versa.”
Honute blushed again.
“My sweet Honute, she is doing only what she knows what to do. In her way, sex is a way to show that you favor her and that you are not mad or displeased. It’s sad, but that’s how most slaves know how to do some controlling of their own.”
He looked into her eyes. “I would never have thought a high priest would do such a thing. We are to respect and help Blessed citizens, not take advantage.”
Akila placed her hand on his cheek. “Honute, I think one of the qualities that has attracted me to you is your willingness to give yourself to your fellow citizen.” She kissed him on the lips softly.
He didn’t fight it, but kissed her softly back.
“We have breakfast waiting for us.”
“How did you know?”
She smiled, got up, and walked to the bathroom. “I watched the whole thing.” She closed the door.
