Episode 7

The group sat around a table in one of the meeting rooms.
Miluna dropped bags of coins in front of each person. “That’s 90 Palladium coins, 99 gold coins, and 100 silver coins.”
The silence was palpable.
Everyone was startled by Basco’s laughter. It boomed outward. “I could drink myself to death with this.”
Yahen and Hallona were silent. Earlier he told her he would leave the group and she could do whatever she wanted. She had the funds now. Plono and Bita looked at one another. They both said, “Let’s go shopping!”
That got Basco to laugh again.
Yahen opened his bag and pulled out eight Palladium coins. He gave two coins each to Kajana, Hallona, Basco, and Plono. He stood up and said, “That’s the pay for the Temple Goddess quest. I’ll deliver everything, so there is no need for you to accompany me back. As of now, I’m withdrawing from the group.”
Bita looked surprised.
Hallona and Plono nodded.
"I'll ask the Innkeep to place your things in storage."
Basco turned to Yahen, “My friend, there is no need for such –”
Yahen exploded. “You all deceived me! I can no longer trust you and for that, I can no longer be part of the group.” He stared at Kajana. “My dagger is turned inward.”
Kajana stared back and replied, “Your blade is dull and rusted. It is there by itself. Clean it!”
Yahen, visibly upset, frowned. She insulted him. She considered him no threat and needed no weapon on the table. He looked everyone in the eye, then turned and walked out of the room. The door slammed shut.
A moment ticked by, then Miluna spoke. “Well, that was dramatic.”
Basco spoke up. “I for one will stay in this wonderful town.” He turned to Kajana, “What are your plans?”
Kajana thought a moment. “I had hoped we could continue as a group, that was if you all wanted me to stay on. Now, I’m thinking the group has just been informally disbanded?”
Basco nodded, “In a sense. I would like to continue.” He looked in turn to Hallona, Bita, and Plono. “Well? You have enough funds to secure a good life for a while. What are your thoughts?”
Bita looked at Basco, Kajana, and Miluna. “I want to stay as a group.”
Plono nodded, “As do I. This is a bit bittersweet. We no longer have to hide our true abilities.”
Hallona looked down, “I lost more than the group leader . . .” She left it that.
Bita said, “Hallona, stay with us. I can understand, but Yahen has effectively forsaken us. He –”
Hallona interrupted, “I know, but my heart hurts. I . . .”
Bita got up from the table and gave Hallona a big hug. “Stay, please. My heart would hurt if you left us.”
After a few moments, Hallona nodded and said, “Okay. I’ll miss Yahen, but I’m thinking he’ll need to fight his own monsters for a while.”
Basco replied, “True. He’ll find his way or fall off that cliff.” He turned to Kajana, “Well, Group Leader - -”
Kajana said,” Woah, who said I was the Group Leader - -”
Bita interrupted, “Who else could it be?”
“Basco for one,” Kajana answered.
With that Basco laughed. “Kajana, I am support. Bita and Plono are soldiers, and Hallona is foundation. Yahen made most of the decisions and kept our focus when it was important. We need that, and you’ve proved yourself more than capable.”
Miluna beamed and gave Kajana a tight hug. “Kaj, don’t fight it. You got this.”
Kajana preferred the singular and solo life of an adventurer. That had been her plan.
Hallona stood up and walked to Kajana. She bent down and gave her a hug. Her voice was soft as she whispered in her ear. “Please, Goddess, lead us to great adventures.” She stood up and walked back to her chair.
Miluna said, “Well, there you go. I’ll take care of the paperwork and registration.”
